Spread Payments Evenly

Across the Year

Level payments help you avoid large monthly changes in energy costs.

No one knows when the pain of rising costs will end. But we are certain energy bills will be significantly higher this winter—and that they are a burden, especially on those struggling the most.

Our average NYC residential customers are expected to have electricity bills about 22% higher and gas heating bills about 32% higher this winter, compared to last winter.

We’re taking steps to keep energy bills as low as possible, like locking in energy prices in advance of winter, when energy is cheaper.

Please consider signing up for our Level Payment Plan to avoid surprise high bills and evenly spread out your payments across the year.

How to Prepare
Besides signing up for our Level Payment Plan, you can also:

1. Carefully mind your thermostat. In the winter, for each degree you lower the thermostat below 68 degrees, you can save up to 5% on heating costs. Get more free tips.
2. Think energy efficient. Upgrade your lights, thermostats, and other appliances through our Marketplace rebates and savings. Lighting is usually your biggest electricity cost.
3. Avoid peak hours. If you consistently limit your electricity use during peak hours, you could save money by switching to our Time-of-Use rate option.
4. Manage your use. Register for My Account and log in via conEd.com or our mobile app for an in-depth look at your hourly energy use.
5. Choose your energy supplier. Con Edison does not generate energy. We provide customers their energy at the same wholesale rate as we pay for it. Customers can research and choose another supplier and get tips for evaluating choices.
6. Check your benefits. Find information about governmental assistance programs, such as Medicaid or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Customers enrolled in assistance programs may be eligible for discounts on their energy bills through our Energy Affordability Program.

Why Will Bills Be Higher?
Your Con Edison bill consists of supply and delivery charges as well as taxes. Rising energy supply costs are by far the biggest drivers of bill increases.

Supply costs vary and are affected by factors such as the weather, demand, and energy market trends. We buy the energy supply you use and pass our costs on to you, without making a profit.

If you’re having trouble managing costs, we’re here to help.
